The Green Island: Preparing the Coral Reefs (part 3 - end)

Dear Greensters,

This is how the preparation before we planted the coral reefs. We have to provide substrates first. Substrates are a kind of media to grow the coral reefs. The materials are simple, such as: sand, cement, tile grout and small PVC pipes which you install in a concrete. It take a couple of hours to make the substrates dry. Then, we write our names on a piece of water-resistant paper with a permanent marker to stick into a piece of coral inside the substrate. Then, it's ready to be planted under the sea in the depth of 5 to 10 meters.

Coral reefs are homes for sea creatures. So, let's plant more and make our ocean greener and healthier.

Best Regards,

The Green Island: Photo Gallery (part 2)

Dear Greensters,

A memorable moment at The Green Island floating dock of Serangan Island - Bali. Let's check our photo gallery of today taken by our mentor Mr. Dewa Gede Agung Dharmayasa.

Seahorses

We can adopt seahorses there. Adopting seahorses does not mean you take the beautiful creatures home. But, you release them back to the sea to their natural habitat. They should be at leats 8 months old to be released to the sea.

A Letter from President of TGTI: Chloe Carissa Putri

Dear Greensters,

Hi, my name is Chloe and I am the President of the Green Team for 2014 - 2015.

Green Team is a group that does good things for the Earth. Well, not only the Earth but for everyone else. Green Team to me is like a part of my life already. Everything that we do is like our routine. Sometimes, I feel really grateful for helping the Earth to grow better and helping others-in-need. Even though we sometimes do something we don’t like, at the end we’re always happy to have the chance of making a better future.

Vanessa's Essay in 'Collective Biodiversity Map' of Tunza-Ecogeneration & UNEP

The banner of the competition in the website
Dear Greensters,

This is Vanessa!

I am so happy because I found so many frogs in my garden. There are 'green frogs' and bigger frogs. So, I wrote about one of them which is a river toad called 'Bangkong River Toad'. In Indonesian language, it is called 'Kodok Bangkong Sungai'. I sent the photo and the essay about this Bangkong River Toad to Tunza-ecogeneration & UNEP for their monthly event of May 2014. The title of the competition is "Collective Intelligence Project: Our Neighborhood World Biodiversity Project". The event was to celebrate International Day for Biological Diversity. We just need to submit photos and essays about endangered-to-extinction species in our country. So, I sent this Bangkong River Toad. I found it was hiding under the shrubs of my Turmeric plants. I didn't win the competition, but I am happy because Tunza-Ecogeneration & UNEP included the photo and essay I sent in their 'Biodiversity Map'.

A Day in 'Yayasan Lengis Hijau': The Interview (part 3 - end)

Dear Greensters,

It was fun and interesting to visit 'Yayasan Lengis Hijau'. For us, technology can help us a lot, but technology is also ruining our beautiful Earth. Including the technology of creating cooking oil. Cooking oil is one of the important ingredients for cooking. But, if we don't use it wisely and properly, it can create diseases to ourselves and harm our planet.

A Day in 'Yayasan Lengis Hijau' (part 2)

Dear Greensters,
Mr. Tri and Mr. Endra

Hi! It's Sharon!

Today, I will tell you guys tips on how to use cooking oil properly. We got lots of knowledge from Yayasan Lengis Hijau that we visited few days ago. Thank you to Mr. Endra Setyawan and Mr. Tri Hermawan for the useful information.

It's Shirley here! This is my first article since being chosen as Vice-President of TGTI, with some additional info from my sister Sharon. It's an honor for me to have a position. Thank you for trusting me.

Please Welcome President & Vice-President of TGTI!

Dear Greensters,
Shirley (Left) and Chloe (Right)

Hi! Patricia here!

We have some great news. The Green Team Indonesia has now a President and Vice President. We feel that we need them to lead the others. Their job is to support and organize this great team into something much better. In every event, they will choose the Speaker in order to give others chances to lead the event of the day successfully. This way, every member will have a chance to express themselves in each event, led by the President and Vice President.

My Garden: Animals (part 4)

Dear Greensters,
Can you see two frogs here?

It's Vanessa here.

I am still talking about my garden. I hope you don't get bored. :

If you have a garden, you will see many animals in your garden. For examples: butterflies (because flowers attract butterflies), bees (because flowers attract bees), grasshoppers (I don't know why they are in my garden. Maybe because they eat fresh leaves) and ..... frogs!!!!!

My Garden: Harvest Time (part 3)

Eating Srikaya from my garden
Dear Greensters,

This is me ... Vanessa.

Do you know what the best time you have in the garden? Yes! It is when you harvest what you have planted. And it's harvesting time for me!

My Garden: Plant the Seeds (part 2)

Dear Greensters,
Fertile soil I bought

It's me Vanessa.

We are still talking about my small garden. I think we should plant something in our gardens, although the gardens are small. We can use pots, small containers or polybags for planting. It is nice and amazing to watch a seed grow day by day.

My Garden: Organize My Small Garden (part 1)

Planting the chili seedling right on the ground
Dear Greensters,

This is me Vanessa.
I hope you guys still remember me. Last week, I bought seeds from kebunbibit.com. It is a store which sells plants and seeds and others gardening tools online. They sell many kinds of vegetables and fruit in seeds or seedlings. On the day I bought the seeds, they had a promotion of one free chili seedlings.

A Day in TEMESI Village: Bricks from Plastic Bags (part 5)

Hey Greensters!!

Patricia here :

Today, I’m going to talk to you about making bricks out of old plastic bags. As we all know, plastics are one of the hardest things to decompose. It takes around 20 – 1000 years for it to decompose. It is very hard, but not impossible.

A Day in TEMESI village: Solar Water Disinfection (part 4)

Hey Greensters!!
An example of heating bottles on the roof of our house

Patricia here. :)

Today, I want to talk to you about Solar Water Disinfection (one of the things us 'The Green Team Indonesia' members learned in Temesi). This method can be used as an emergency when you have no fuel when you need to boil water or when you’re going camping. I find this very interesting because we’re using natural energy from the sun. Our natural environment has provided us with everything we need to survive in this great, big world. It’s up to us to benefit them all for our lives.

A Day in TEMESI VILLAGE: the Interview (part 3)

Dear Greensters,

An interview between Chloe from the Green Team Indonesia and one of the workers there in Temesi Village's waste separation. His name is Cholis from Probolinggo (East Java, Indonesia). He is 25 years old and has been working there since two months ago. Cholis said that he found many things in the trashes, like jewelries (gold or silver), dollars and even cellphones. He finds money almost everyday, usually small money. He saves it in his piggy bank.

A Day in TEMESI Village: the People (part 2)

The Heroes of our Environment
Hellooooowww Greensters!!
Patricia here :) I want to share my opinion with you guys on our trip to Temesi. This is my own opinion as a kid so I apologize if there are some people disagree with me. I hope we read this from the positive side when I expose this story. Thank you.

A Day in TEMESI VILLAGE: the Landfill (part 1)

Hey Greensters!!

It's Patricia here ... and we're back online after weeks of exams and projects at our school. :)

So, to celebrate Earth day, The Green Team Indonesia went to Temesi village. It is about 30 kilometers from Denpasar city in Bali and located in Gianyar area. It took us around one hour to drive there. Thanks to everybody who joined us that day: miss Julie, sir Agung (our TGTI mentor), Shirley, Sharon, Mika, Chloe, Hillary, auntie Lieza, Aura, Vina and auntie Dindha. And of course, my mom and Vanessa my sister, the co-founder of TGTI.

Cinta Bumi dengan Hari Raya Nyepi

<a href="http://wwfindonesia.blogdetik.com/lomba-blog-ingatlingkungan-berhadiah-uang-tunai-total-rp-10-juta/" target="_blank"<img src="http://wwfindonesia.blogdetik.com/files/2014/03/9cbe6ea6a8f78e4daabcd335a64a2fd1_banner-lombablog-wwf-250.gif" width="100%"></a>

Starbucks' Green Commitment

Hey Greenster!
Ask for a ceramic cup for your drink

Patricia here :)

Today I'm going to talk to you about Starbucks' green commitment. I'm sure most of you all know Starbucks. It is an American global coffeehouse chain that is well-known around the globe. You might think that a very big and wealthy company might not pay attention to those around them. But, it turns out Starbucks is also concerned about our environment.

Omelette ala Chef at Badung Market

* This is written few months ago but we missed to publish this.
Sorry for the inconvenience. But, we think that a good story should be shared to those who concern. Thank you *

Omelette ala Chef
Dear Greensters!

Shirley's here!

Today (28 September 2013), we went to Badung market to teach the kids how to cook omelettes. There were around 18 kids and some teenagers attended the class. They were so excited to cook omelettes like what we usually have in restaurants or hotels.

Biawak (Varanus) in My House!

Hi, Greensters!
Litte cute monitor lizard

It's me again. Vanessa. I am here to write something that can surprise you. :). Well, this morning there was a monitor lizard in my house. I will tell you what happened.

So the story is like this. This morning, when my parent's staffs were cleaning the house, they screamed but not really that loud then they started panicking, so my mom went outside and asked them what happened. They said that there was a monitor lizard inside the house! When my mom knew about it, she did not even freaked out or panic because she is used to it! So, she went back to her room.
