A Day in 'Yayasan Lengis HIjau' (part 1)

Javier handed TGTI souvenir to Mr. Tri
Dear Greensters,

It's Shirley here! This is my first article since being chosen as Vice-President of TGTI, with some additional info from my sister Sharon. It's an honor for me to have a position. Thank you for trusting me.

So, during the previous Green Team visits, we went to a place that makes used cooking oils changed into bio diesels. Used cooking Oils are oils that are used for cooking that has been used to fry or cook for more than 3 times. This type
Mr. Endra explained about biodiesel
of oil is not recommended to be used to cook again. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that comes from natural resources that can be used for cars, boilers and generators. This type of fuel does not harm the environment.

This place is called "Yayasan Lengis Hijau". In Bali language, "Lengis" means oil. "Lengis Hijau" receives and collects used cooking oils to be changed into bio diesels. They use machines to convert it. It usually takes 1 day to produce 1000 litres of bio diesels. We also found out that fast food restaurants' used cooking oils looks similar to porridge but its color is orange. Usually people will throw waste cooking oil to their sink and years after their sink will be broken. Due to the problem of what the place should the waste cooking oil should be disposed, Lengis Hijau made use of recycling
Inside the blue buckets are used cooking oils. So thick!
the waste cooking oil into the useful biodiesel.

Their bio diesels are usually bought by hotels. Hotels uses the bio diesels to generate its generators and boilers. They usually buys it at 9500 IDR per liter. We can create from not only used cooking oil but we can create bio diesels from the skin of grains and soy beans but it requires more funds.

Thank you very much for Mr. Endra Setyawan (Liaison officer) and Mr. Tri Hermawan (Process Engineering Manager) who helped us a lot during the visit with their very useful information. They also suggest us to create a collecting point at school or our house. Once we collect the used cooking oil, we can submit it to Lengis Hijau to be

processed further. They will give you 2000 IDR per liter for the exchange. Our school, Taman Rama School, has given a permission to create a collecting point at school. Thank you to our school for the support. Even, Mr. Endra has visited our school to give a workshop on biodiesel few days ago.

If you want to know more about this great foundation, please visit: www.lengishijau.or.id.

That's it for now guys!!! :)

Best Regards,

Shirley Waskito
Vice-President of TGTI
