A Visit to CITY MAYOR'S OFFICE: Mr. IB RAI D. MANTRA

Dear Greensters,
City Mayor's office: The Green Team Indonesia with
City Mayor Mr. IB Rai D. Mantra

On Tuesday (27 August 2013), we visited the City Mayor of Denpasar – Bali. His name is Mr. IB Rai D. Mantra. We went to the Mayor’s office in Gajahmada Street Number 1, Denpasar at 11 am. There were 7 of us: Patricia, Vanessa, Ananda, Javier, Mika, Kirana and Shirley. We are sorry to other TGTI members who cannot join us because we cannot bring too many members this time. Mrs. Ayu Hartini (CSR & Green Practices Manager of Surfer Girl) accompanied us to meet the City Mayor because Patricia is the Surfer Girl’s Green Ambassador.

We were surprised when we first met Mr. Rai Mantra. He’s so friendly and humble. He talked to us like a father talking to his children. He is the son of former Governor of Bali. He told us that since he was a kid, he has been trained to be humble and low profile as well as not become a spoiled child although his father was the Governor. We know that he is a very busy man, but he still manages to spare his time to welcome and greet us. It is an honor for us to meet him personally. This is what we shared with him and what he advised us.

of the City Mayor

Our purpose to meet the City Mayor:

The main purpose is to introduce the Green Team Indonesia (TGTI) to the City Mayor. We also want to share our ideas with the City Mayor concerning the environment surrounding us. We also want to tell the City Mayor about our achievements so far and listen to his advice and to make TGTI better.

Our ideas to the City Mayor:

Beach clean up : Bali is known with its beautiful beaches. We should make sure the beaches are clean and safe, or it will be a shame for the tourism if it is dirty. Having a beach clean up program once in a while with the children is fun and can be an alternative event.

Planting more new mangroves:
TGTI gave some souvenirs for the City Mayor
Bali is an island surrounded by sea. Mangroves are very helpful in preventing the flood and tsunami. More mangroves means safer for the island.

Planting rice paddies: We should plant rice paddies because in the future we might not see any rice paddies anymore, if people sell their paddies fields for settlements and buildings.

Coral reef planting: We should save the coral reefs and plant the coral reefs because it can prevent the tsunami like mangroves. If the coral reefs are healthy, the fish and the ocean will look beautiful.

Message from the City Mayor for TGTI:
Get more members of TGTI, work hard for
the environment and keep up the spirit!
Love the Museum: Museum is known as a boring place to visit here, but actually there’s a lot of stuff like history and many stuff we can learn from there. Government might provide an interesting event in the museums to attract children to visit.

The City Mayor’s advice to TGTI and us all:

  • Environmental awareness should come from our soul.
  • Environmental awareness should be started from each house and school. The easiest way is to start separating our trashes into organics and non-organics.
  • He advised us to have a program like ‘one child plants 10 trees’ to make a greener environment.
  • We must work together to create our city with the slogan 'Kotaku, Rumahku' meaning 'My City, My Home'.

Thank you very much, Mr. Rai Mantra.

We really appreciate your advices and support to us.
This snack is called 'Klepon Klabet' served at the
City Mayor's office. Very yummy!

Best Regards,

Patricia, Vanessa, Shirley, Kirana, Javier, Mika and Ananda
