Our Visit to the Orphanage for the Blind

Hi, Greensters!

Mika and Patricia here!

Few days ago, we went to the foundation of blind people and we will tell you what happened in there. On Wednesday of July 17th 2013, we went to an orphanage of blind people. There, we met many of kids and teenagers that are blind. They sang and show their talents to us. Some of them were playing the keyboard, and drum, and some of them sang.

Even though they are blind, it doesn't mean that they are blind inside their heart. They still can smile and show the world that they can. They are just like us, normal kids, just with sight problems. They still go to school like us, they still play around like us, because they are just like us, we are humans… and they are too. I won't say they are blind because they can see with their heart. I believe, they have a pure heart. I am amazed on how talented they are. They can play instruments just by feeling. No seeing. Their voices are very melodic and they sing with a smile. Can you imagine not being able to see anything? It's hard! But these people are still fighting and they still put a smile on their face. I met a guy there. His name is Made (pronounce: Ma - like in 'Mama' and 'De' like in 'Day') and WOW! his voice is just too amazing. The keyboardist there is also a very amazing guy. His name is Dede. He started playing the keyboard since he was a little kid. It was a pleasure to be able to be there with them and it's also a pleasure to experience this.

Not only they sang for us but we also sang for them. My friends and I (Patricia) sang "What Makes You Beautiful' by One Direction. We sang that song because to us, all of them are beautiful in their own ways. Some of them who know the lyrics sang with us too. We also sang "Price Tag". It was fun! Everybody cheered when we're done singing. It made me really happy but I was more happy to hear them sing. It was so touching. Their choice of songs are so perfect. Nobody is perfect, but these people are more than enough.

Mrs. Dayu as the owner of the Dria Raba Orphanage explained to us that there are two kinds of people who are blind in her orphanage: blind because of low vision and blind since they were born. For those who are blind since they were born, it might be caused by Torch virus or genetic. Mrs. Dayu also advised us all to not watch television very close with the monitor. Be careful also when we are using our computer. Don't look at the monitor too much!

We uploaded the video when Made sang. The title of the song is 'Tak Ada Yang Sempurna" ('Nobody's Perfect in English). We'll try to translate some of the lyric in English for you all:

Nobody's perfect
I understand all of this
I go through the days in the dark
However, I will not regret what happened to me
Because I believe in God's greatness

Hope you enjoy the song sang by Made and Apri, his sister and Depi.
We hope there will be a music producer who is interested in making a song album for Made, Apri and Depi. They are awesome!
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day :)

PS: Thank you to Mr. Agung, our mentor, for recording the very touching video.
