Our Visit to JAWA POS - RADAR BALI Newspaper

Thank you so much, Mr. Ridwan and Jawa Pos Radar Bali!
Hey Greensters!

Patricia here :)

Guess what? The Green Team Indonesia was interviewed by Jawa Pos newspaper. Jawa Pos is a very famous newspaper in Indonesia. It is also awarded as the best newspaper in the world for young readers! So, today, we went to Jawa Pos' representative office in Bali (it is called Radar Bali).

This is our first interview and we were so excited!!! We couldn't wait!!! There were 13 of us. Some are new ones and some you might know because they also write in this blog. We got 5 new members!! Ah mazing right???? It excites me every time we have a new member. Especially 5 new ones!! And we went there with our mentor. Yes, the Green Team Indonesia has a mentor. His name is Mr. Dewa Gede Agung Dharmayasa (nickname: Mr. Agung). He is actually the teacher in my school, he is kind and always supports us. You can see him in some of the pictures in this blog also. :)

Anyways, when we arrived at the Jawa Pos' office, we prayed together…. hand in hand. We prayed in our own religion because we have different religions in The Green Team Indonesia. When we were already upstairs in a place that kind of looks like a meeting room, we all sat down. Then the interviewer (Mr. Muhammad Ridwan) came in with the photographer and journalist (Mr. Widi). He asked us a lot of questions within almost 1.5 hours! But I guess that's just what interviewers do. :))
Pray together, hand-in-hand

At first, it was so awkward but after a couple of questions, we got used to it. I'll tell u guys some of the questions that the interviewer asked and our answers.

Mr. Muhammad Ridwan (MR): Tell us a little about The Green Team Indonesia. The Green Team Indonesia (TGTI): The Green Team Indonesia is a team that has a mission to spread the word of kindness to the environment and to one another. To us, environment is not just about garbage, but also about people, animals, plants and everything around us. Our tagline is "Together, hand in hand, we can balance the world" and "spread the word of kindness". We are students from grade 3 to grade 9. We are open to the world too so if anybody wants to join….. they can. Although we are still kids, we are brave enough and have courage to take real actions for the environment and the people around us.

MR: Why do you choose Kangkong seeds for the give away? Why not other vegetables or fruits? And what is the Latin name for Kangkong?
TGTI: We chose kangkong seeds because it is easy to plant, healthy, can be harvested more than once and also because it is a traditional Indonesian food that you can afford easily. People think kangkong is cheap. But, indeed it is rich in vitamins and minerals. We want kangkong to be worldwide. Hehehe. When you want to harvest it, don't pluck off the roots, it's better to just cut the branches so it can grow again and you can harvest it again. You can harvest it around 3 times. And the Latin name for Kangkong is Ipomoea aquatica.

MR: What does the colors in your logo mean?
TGTI: The main colors of TGTI are red, green, blue and yellow. Red means to be brave enough (have courage) to take real actions even though we are still kids. Green represents the plants around us. Blue represents the Earth and yellow means friendship. For the past 5 months, TGTI members have been more closer than ever. We would be doing all activities together, all the activities that we did in The Green Team made us together. We are a family.

Front and back cover of my book
I also gave away my book titled "Menjadi Juara dengan Mencintai Lingkungan" ('Being the Winner by Caring for Environment'). It is published by Tiga Serangkai, a well-known book publisher here in Indonesia. The book is mostly about my own tips and my experiences as Green Ambassador and environmental activist. So, if you want to learn what I have been learning, just read the book I wrote. It can be found in bookstores in Indonesia (hopefully worldwide one day. Hahaha) :)). The endorsements of the book were written by Mrs. Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar (Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection) and Miss Gracia Paramitha (UNEP-Tunza Global Youth Advisor, Asia Pacific Representative).

It was an amazing experience. From now on, Jawa Pos will be supporting us on all of our activities by reporting and publishing it to public because they think it is good for young people and adult to inspire and motivate them to do more for environment and other people.

I am really proud of The Green Team. We are a family, and we will do this together. Special Thanks to Mr. Agung (our mentor), The Green Team Members, and of course, Jawa Pos for welcoming us. They are really friendly people and Thank you for supporting us.

Best regards,

Patricia xx
