The Story of a Hedgehog: Self-Anointing (part 3 - end)

Dear Greensters,

Hi! It's Vanessa again! So, this is the last part of the stories about my hedgehogs. As I told you earlier, I have 8 hedgehogs. I name them as Hedgy Spice, Norman, Rambutan, Durian, Squishey Paws, Paul, Nala, and Spikey.

Hedgehogs have a unique habit. They like to spit on themselves. It is called 'self-anointing'. They will twist their body, then form a foamy saliva and they spread it on their body. There is no Scientific explanation yet about this habit. But, what I heard is that they do that when they feel strange with a new smell. If they do it regularly, then it might mean they need a bath. Some people also said that this self-anointing habit is a kind of scent camouflage in order to cover their own scent in a new environment. Even baby hedgehogs can do this habit since their early age.

This is all for today. So, whatever your pets are, always take care of them with L-O-V-E. Having pets need a big commitment. Please consider them as your family member and you will never neglect them a day.

Thank you for reading.

Best Regards,
