A Day in TEMESI VILLAGE: the Interview (part 3)

Dear Greensters,

An interview between Chloe from the Green Team Indonesia and one of the workers there in Temesi Village's waste separation. His name is Cholis from Probolinggo (East Java, Indonesia). He is 25 years old and has been working there since two months ago. Cholis said that he found many things in the trashes, like jewelries (gold or silver), dollars and even cellphones. He finds money almost everyday, usually small money. He saves it in his piggy bank.

He said that he can collect almost or more than one ton of organic trashes in a day depending on the quality of the trashes. He can work until midnight. Other than organic trashes, he also looks for papers, carton boxes, cigarette boxes, bottles and many more. He can sell the items to the other recycling plants.

What we learn:
  • Always double check your trashes before you throw it away. Don't throw away your money, jewelries or cellphones by accident.
  • You can do the waste separation starting at your house. It will help them a lot! You may sell it also and get money from it. Then, you can use the money for your next green action.
  • People here still do not have an understanding on the importance of waste separation. They just throw away everything in one garbage bin.

Best Regards,
Patricia
