Traditional Market

H
Dear friends,

I'm Sharon from the Green Team Indonesia.

I want to talk about traditional market. Nowadays, people shops at the mall or supermarket more often instead of shopping at the traditional market. There is the disadvantage and the advantage going to the mall then going to the traditional market. You can see the photo I posted. That is one of the traditional markets here in Bali - Indonesia. These are my opinions about both of them:

Back to Nature: "JAMU"

Hellowwww!!!

Patricia here :)

Do you know that there is this traditional herbal drink called "jamu" in Indonesia? The picture I posted is a cup of 'jamu kunyit asam' in Indonesian language, or if I translate it, it becomes 'tamarind-turmeric herbal drink'. Something like that, because 'turmeric' is 'kunyit' and 'tamarind' is 'asam jawa'. You can see what turmeric looks like that I put it beside the cup.

I drink this 'kunyit asam' 3 times a week. It tastes awful but it is very very very good for your health. It makes your face nice and acne free, it makes your hair smell nice and it is also good for your body, especially for teenage girls and woman.

Here's the recipe for the herb drink that my mom usually makes for me so it is always fresh to drink:

Swimming with the SHARKS!

Hello!

Patricia here :)

Today, I want to talk to you about swimming with the sharks. I know it sounds scary because people always think that "sharks are dangerous and can kill us", but it's actually not.... The sharks are still babies.. They're not as harmful as the adult ones. So anyways, I went swimming with the sharks on around July last year. I must say thank you to Surfer Girl who gave me, as the Surfer Girl's Green Ambassadorthis wonderful chance to experience swimming with the sharks in Serangan Island. :)

The sharks were mostly the black-tip reef sharks. There were around 17 reef sharks that time. The place I went is a kind of conservation for the sharks. Why? Because the most threat to the sharks are humans! Yes, we are the threat to the sharks because fishermen like to hunt them and kill them! So, this conservation (Bali Sharks) tries to save the sharks and release them one day.

Pets Can Get Bored, Too!

Hello world!

How are you today?
Anyways, Patricia here!

Today, I’m going to talk about pets. Did you know that pets can feel bored too? Its true… they can. Okay, so I have this pet turtle that my sister Vanessa and I have been taking care of since 5 years ago. Its name is Mumu. I know it's weird but my little sister is the one who named it… not me. I posted his photo here. So cute, right?

So after like around a year since we bought it, we realized that Mumu felt bored being in its little bucket all day. So we decided to let it out in the morning and bring it in again in the evening everyday. I didn't have a pond for the turtle because there is no space for a pond in my house. This is Mumu’s routine everyday according to my sister (even a turtle has a routine!):

If We Live in Outer Space ...

Dear my friends of the Earth,

My name is Sharon from the Green Team. I just become the member of the Green Team. I have the chance to write and share this 'imaginative writing' with you.

Have you ever imagined if we cannot live on the Earth anymore? What would we do if we have to live outer space? Imagine that we live in a huge spacecraft like in Wall-E the movie.

And this is my imagination if we have to live outer space. How to be eco-friendly in the place without gravity. Have fun reading! :)

In my opinion as a kid, living in outer space is complicated. Moreover, if we do not know the tips to live there.

Here are some imaginative tips to guide you there:

Spreading the Word of Kindness through Parcels

Vas happenin', my friends around the world?  :)

Patricia here.

Today I want to talk to you about spreading the word of kindness by visiting people in need. This time is about people with cancer in the government hospital here in my city, Denpasar - Bali (Indonesia). They go to the hospital from rural areas and mostly poor areas. They don't have enough money so the government pays for their medications.

Save Money on Water!

Dear friends of the world,

It's me ... Shirley from the Green Team.

We should save money on water, it means like we should not waste a huge amount of money on water. We should use water conservatively and wisely. Because water resources are actually limited and it depends on us how to conserve it for the future. Humans can live 40 days without food, but only 3 days without water. So, HOW to save money on water from a kid's opinion like me?

One Day at a Landfill

Hey, friends around the world!

Patricia here :)

So, today I want to talk to you guys about garbage dump. A garbage dump is an area full of our trash. I call it 'garbage dump', but I just found out that it is called a 'landfill'.

Look at the picture I posted here. This is not a land. This is not a layer of soil. Actually, this is a huuuugggeee pile of garbage! It really shocked me because I saw hills of garbage everywhere. Yes, everywhere in a large area of a landfill here around Serangan island area. I took this picture after I planted mangrove trees at the Serangan beach few weeks ago.

Have you seen the movie titled Wall-E? Well if you did, then you'll know how I feel when I saw that landfill. I imagine the Earth full of garbage just like the Wall-E movie and we humans must live in a spacecraft! I felt really sad looking at it because it destroys our environment, slowly but surely. Environment is not all about garbage. Environment is about everything around us, including humans and animals. And of course, a huge pile of garbage is not good at all for humans and animals in the future.

Do you want to help in reducing the amount of garbage? Here's some tips for my opinion as a kid:

I Plant my Own Kangkong!

Dear my friends,

It's me Vanessa of the Green Team :)

Few weeks ago, I learnt on how to plant Kangkong. You remember Kangkong, right? My sister Patricia already wrote about Kangkong, the Water Spinach in this blog. It is easy to plant Kangkong from the seeds. Just buy the seeds and the composted soil from the plant store and follow these steps. By the way, I use a big pot to plant it, but you can use an unused can for growing it first before you move the plants to a bigger pot or land.

I found a Bird's Nest!

Heyooo!! Patricia's here :)

Guess what happened today? I found a bird's nest in my front yard!!! It seemed it was falling down from a tree. I was pretty confused at first because the egg was really tiny but the nest was HUGE!!! (I took a picture of it so you can see the nest I found). I have no idea what bird it is but I think it's a small bird because the egg is small. But, whatever the bird is, its nest is an evidence that there are still birds living around this crowded housings of the city and I'm so happy about the fact. :)). Anyways, I have some tips for all of you that ever or will find a bird's nest.

Mangrove Planting!

Hey guys!

This week, we went to Serangan island for planting mangroves. According to Wikipedia (thanks, Wikipedia), mangroves are various types of trees up to medium height and shrubs that grow in saline coastal sediment habitats in the tropics and subtropics. Mangroves have many benefits, one of them is for preventing the land (beach) from abrasion.

Hello World!

Hello World!

You might be wondering why we’re here, right? Well, we’re here to help saving the Earth. Nowadays, many actions to “ruin” our lovely planet happen in every part of the world. People are cutting trees illegally, destroying the mangrove forest, burning trashes and many things. The most horrible thing is they are destroying our Earth, consciously or unconsciously. We don’t want anything to happen to Earth because Earth is our only home. Where would we go if the Earth is destroyed? We cannot just go and live in outer space whenever we want. Earth is our home. Earth is part of us.
